Who are the shoppers?
The shoppers range from all walks of life. Most of them are housewives, elderly people or students. Only a small percentage of the shoppers bring their children along.
What do they buy?
A majority of the shoppers were seen at the fresh and frozen foods section. Food items can be spotted in almost any shopper’s basket or trolley. Very few people were spotted at the electronics section which consisted mostly of men anyway.
How do they shop?
With the exception of a female teenager, we did not see anyone else bring a shopping list. Few people brought their own bags. Everyone else was using the baskets and trolleys that were provided in the supermarket. Sign directories are attached above and categorized accordingly, making shopping for groceries easier. Bulky items are loaded onto the base of the trolley or perhaps sent by home delivery if it is too big to carry. Payment is then made at the counter when the shoppers are satifised and check out their items. Shoppers who require a few items only would use the express lane to make payment.
Research
We reached the designated area at about 5pm. It was generally crowded by that time already judging by the vast number of shoppers at the counters. Headed out to observe and document research, going through sections by sections. Our observations include:
- When couples shop for groceries, normally the female would be choosing and examining the products while the man would stand there idly and listen to her opinians.
- In family cases, the husband will stay behind with the trolley and children while the wife will go to see the products.
- We did not see anyone else with a shopping list at all, with the exception of a female teenager. We assume that lists are made so that people can get their items if they’re rushing for time or if to be sure. No one seemed to be rushing in their shopping, taking on a leisurely pace.
- Mainly the foods, vegetable and frozen food sections were the most populated area. The types of people ranging from housewives to elderly people, ages of all kinds. Food is the most essential shopping item hence that explains the massive crowd.
- We stood behind and observe a lady’s actions. She stood before the range of items, staring at it for quite awhile. Then she picked up one item and started reading the label thoroughly. Then she looked up at the shelf again and started scanning through the items before picking another one and comparing them both. This type of behavior seems to be quite common with a lot of people.
- Shoppers tend to reach for the item located right at the back than the front.
- Shoppers like to check out the expiry date 1st thing.
- Shoppers are attracted to the free samples given out by the saleswomen stationed in their booths.
- Teenagers clad in school uniforms buy light items such as snacks, they’re rarely seen with baskets or pushing trolleys.

Signs are placed above with the different categories to make shopping easier.
An example of a family case where the wife picks the groceries while the husband stands behind with the trolley and takes care of the children.

1. What is a multimedia CD-ROM title?
A multimedia CD-ROM title has data stored in a cd inthe form of text, visual, audio and video integrated together. This data comes in the form of user-navigation implemented when the cd is inserted into a computer.
2. What are some application of CD-ROM title design? Eg. Educational. Bring examples, if any.
Other examples for applications would include research, games or tutorial purposes.
3. What are the differences between website design and CD-ROM title design?
For CD-ROM title design, the application buttons are fully functional and more graphic user interface knowledge has to be incorporated on them. Also in addition e.g at 700mb, it can contain much more information and images if necessary and it would not lag or slow down. A website containing many images might load slowly in comparison.

The above situation takes place in the Singapore Science Centre. We were suppose to be separated from each other without removing the chain cuffs. As can be seen in the pictures, we had quite a number of failed attempts. This game is very interactive as there is alot of communication and response between the two parties, as both suggest and think of many different strategies. Team work and cooperation is essential at this point. Even the other onlookers got involved and suggested their methods too. Hence, this game is not really restrictive as well. It was overall a fun experience.

Chilling out at Neebo, playing unooo staaaaacko!
Uno stacko is a game that requires alot of interaction, quick thinking and sabotage.
There is alot of interaction in terms of communication, and good bonding quality time applies as well. All of us had fun interacting with one another
It is memorable in a sense to me that I’ve rarely played these sort of games with friends and furthermore it was played during Studio Project 2 for ‘destressing’, so you could say that we all worked and played hard together!
Heh. And to make it even more interesting, we added crazy forfeits as well mwhaha.
1. What happened?
Me and some classmates from DMD0810 had a chilling session at a cafe called Neebo, located in Ang Moh Kio Hub. Neebo is recognised for allowing customer to play board or interactive games while eating.
2. How did I react?
Kinda nervous and excited at the same time each time I anticpated my turn, especially if I’ve got to pick out 8 blocks at one go. Friends trying to sabotage does not help either haha.
3. What was my subjective response.
Anticipation, excitment, nervous.
4. Was the experience likely to be intentional or designed?
The game is designed for the stack to fall, but it is intentional when we try to sabotage during our friends’ turn to make theirs fall heh heh heh.
5. How does this experience affect what i think of the provider of the experience?
I’m grateful to the provider for creating such a game as it grants us a good time, and really allows closer bonding when playing with or friends or family.
This was take in Seoul, Korea. We were supposed to learn the process of making kimchi as part of the tour. The whole process was really interactive and hands on and a new learning experience for me. There was also a prize for the best kimchi made which sadly we did not win haha.
1. What happened?
We were taken to a place to learn the process of making kimchi and watch how it is being done. After that, we were supposed to follow instructions and try to do it ourselves.
2. How did I react?
I was kinda surprised when we had to do it too, quite stunned a little. Somehow when it comes to cooking or stuff like that, I never fail to screw up hahahahha.
3. What was my subjective response.
Shocked, anxious and abit excited too actually.
4. Was the experience likely to be intentional or designed?
It was designed as it was part of the tour.
5. How does this experience affect what I think of the provider of the experience?
The whole making thing was kinda cool actually, I really had fun learning it with my family. We interacted and laughed with the other clueless people as well, when everyone had no idea what to do. Hence, it was definitely a fun experience overall.

How do you find this site? (in 3 words)
Boring, dull, unappealing. Another alternative would be ‘ needs drastic improvement’.
Who do you think the site is created for?
I assumed it is created for customers who need information such as the location of various outlets of discounts. However, with the lack of images and design otherwise, I feel it is created mostly just for them to keep track of their own outlets and information, or just simply establishing their presence online.
What are the good attributes of the site (in terms of usability, aesthetic issues, etc)?
The layout is really simple and user-navigation is not complicated. The specific information is provided in a very straight-forward way. People who need their information quickly would be able to get it fast.
What are the bad attributes of the site?
The light grey font does not go well with the yellow background. There are hardly any pictures that show the types of clothes they sell, hence new visitors to the site might lose interest quickly. Furthermore, the title is not corrected properly and the website does not look professional in the least bit. People who view the website would find it rather mundane and might not bother browsing through it. The layout should be designed more professionally to uphold their brand name, to keep more people interested and it might gain even more publicity that way.
